Orbis Reaches New Audiences at SXSW
Orbis had a successful first visit to South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference & Festivals, taking full advantage of this unique opportunity to speak to a new audience on tech innovation and access.
As part of the conference’s 2017 Health Track, four experts in their fields represented Orbis in the panel “Fighting Blindness with Tech Innovation & Access on Friday, March 10. Amongst the panelists were Orbis Chief of Program Dr. Danny Haddad, Orbis Senior Medical Advisor Dr. Daniel Neely, Crestron Electronics Director of Consultant Programs Brian Studwell, OphthalmologyWeb and OptometryWeb Content Director Corrie Pelc, who also served as the panel’s moderator.
The panel provided attendees with a look at how Orbis is using technology in innovative ways to build the capacity of eye care teams around the world, including using Cybersight and the Flying Eye Hospital, the world's only ophthalmic teaching hospital on board an MD-10 aircraft. Dr. Haddad and Dr. Neely took the audience, which included representatives from Sightsavers and Pfizer, through a tour of the Flying Eye Hospital, the different technologies on board, and real-life stories on restoring vision makes an impact on communities.
