Wondmagne: A Teacher Transforming Eye Health in Dorze Holo

At Orbis, we are proud to work with community heroes like Wondmagne, a dedicated teacher at Dorze Holo Primary School on the outskirts of Arba Minch. His commitment to eye health education has transformed the lives of his students—and the impact extends far beyond the classroom.

Making Vision a Reality

Equipped with Orbis training, Wondmagne helps students take charge of their eye health, so they can learn, grow, and thrive without limitations.

Leading the School Eye Health Club

Every week, Wondmagne leads the School Eye Health Club, which brings together approximately. 35 students and six fellow teachers. The club provides interactive sessions on eye health education, following the World Health Organisation’s SAFE strategy—Surgery, Antibiotics, Facial cleanliness, and Environmental improvement—a proven approach to eliminating trachoma.

Through these sessions, students learn:

  • How to care for their eyes
  • How to recognise early signs of infection or vision problems
  • When and how to seek help

Wondmagne also plays a critical role in identifying children with potential vision issues, ensuring they get the care they need before problems affect their learning.

As a father of four, Wondmagne understands the value of good eyesight in a child’s education. His dedication helps build a culture of prevention and awareness that reaches beyond the school and into the wider community.

Wondmagne’s impact—and the gift of sight to his students—wouldn’t be possible without supporters like you.
