Fuad's story of helping children see

Fuad, an optometrist in rural Ethiopia, is dedicated to improving eye health in his community. His work provides children with glasses, trains teachers to identify vision problems, and promotes eye health awareness.

In Chencha, Fuad's role involves addressing numerous eye health issues, including prevalent conditions like trachoma and cataracts. Trachoma, a painful and blinding eye disease, often goes neglected until it results in irreversible blindness. Fuad finds it particularly distressing to witness people losing their sight to cataracts, a condition he frequently observed growing up without understanding its cause.

Through his work with Orbis Ireland, Fuad has made a tangible impact. He regularly visits schools to conduct eye screenings and provides children with glasses where appropriate, unfortunately, he has seen many children at risk of dropping out due to vision problems. Providing these children with glasses gives them a second chance at education.

Additionally, Fuad and his colleagues train teachers to identify refractive errors in students, fostering early intervention. They also work closely with eye clubs at schools, promoting eye health awareness.

Fuad’s story illustrates the transformative power of providing children with classes. Through your support, we can continue to train professionals like Fuad, equip facilities, and provide essential eye care services. Make a donation today, to help Fuad's work go even further.
