Your chance to win a trip to Ethiopia with sight-saving charity – Orbis Ireland

The winner will join Orbis this November for the iconic Great Ethiopian 10km Run through the streets of Addis Ababa and travel to rural areas of southern Ethiopia to visit the Orbis sight-saving project work.

Departing on Thursday 16 and returning on Thursday 23 November 2023 this is the ultimate week away with a difference. Whilst in Ethiopia, you will have the opportunity to experience life in this fascinating country with traditional dining, entertainment and excursions included. As part of the Orbis team, we'll take care of your hotel, travel and race entry.

As part of your trip, you will have the chance to witness Orbis at work in the local community. You will visit a local school, water station and witness how Orbis is making real change happen in southern Ethiopia.

How to Enter

To enter, take on a fundraising challenge with Orbis Ireland. The person who raises the most will join us in Ethiopia for a trip of a lifetime.

To enter the competition you have to:

  1. Select a fundraiser: To enter the competition you have to sign up for one of our fundraisers from the list below.
  2. Set up a fundraising page: All funds must be raised through Enthuse.
  3. Start fundraising: To enter the competition you must raise a minimum of €300. Share your fundraising page with family, friends and colleagues, as well as on social media. Don't forget to tag Orbis Ireland, and we'll help to spread the word too.

Fundraisers:

  1. The Women’s Mini Marathon, Sunday 4 June 2023: The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is a 10k road race, which takes place every June bank holiday weekend in Dublin city centre. It is the largest women’s event of its kind in the world. Join the Orbis Ireland Team for 2023 Vhi Dublin Women’s Mini Marathon.
  2. Hell & Back, 10 June 2023: HELL & BACK is Ireland’s toughest mental and physical endurance challenge which sees the stunning Killruddery Estate in Bray, Co Wicklow converted into an adventure playground. Participants will complete an 8 KM trail route crossing rivers and lakes, climbing hills and mountains and crawling through bogs and swamps.
  3. Tandem Sky-Dive, you choose a date before 25 July 2023: Skydiving is a thrilling experience as you freefall through the sky, witnessing the stunning Irish countryside as you've never seen it before. When you take on this challenge is up to you - select your preferred date, and Orbis will arrange the rest (subject to availability)
  4. Alternatively, you can be creative and create your own initiative to raise funds for Orbis Ireland!

The Winner

The student, who raises the most is offered a space on our trip to Ethiopia.

Terms & Conditions

All entrants to the Orbis Ireland Fundraising Challenge Competition must meet the following requirements:

  • Be over 18 of age on 01/11/2023
  • Be a student in Ireland
  • Register online (Enthuse) and pay the €30 registration fee
  • Raise a minimum of €300 (all fundraising must be received by Orbis Ireland by the closing date to be considered)

The winner will be the student who raises the most for Orbis Ireland by Tuesday 27 June 2023.

The registration fee (€30) will count towards the total fundraising goal.

The closing date for fundraising is Tuesday 27 June, 12 pm GMT Dublin.

THE PRIZE: A Trip to Ethiopia with Orbis Ireland (16-23 November 2023).

  • Included: return flights from Dublin Airport (economy class), Hotel accommodation on a shared, twin-room basis, Internal travel within Ethiopia, including internal flights to Orbis projects, Great Ethiopian Run Race entry fees
  • Not included: Vaccinations & related medicines, Flight upgrades beyond economy ticket provided, single room supplement accommodation, Travel to/from the airport, Food & beverages beyond the standard provision, Travel insurance, Tips for guides and drivers
