Fundraising and Communications Director (short term contract)

Orbis is looking to recruit a Fundraising & Communications Director (maternity cover) for their fundraising office in Ireland. As well as providing leadership and practical expertise on all communications and fundraising activities, the successful candidate will be responsible for reporting on finance and governance activities in Ireland.

Orbis Ireland is a small affiliate office of Orbis International – an international sight-saving charity working to eliminate avoidable blindness. Orbis Ireland is recruiting a Fundraising & Communications Director on a short-term contract.

The Fundraising & Communications Director should be a hands-on leader, who gets things done, and achieves results in a small organisation. The ideal candidate will be looking for a short-term contract in an ever-changing and fast paced environment, where no day is ever the same and all aspects of fundraising and communications are tapped into.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Fundraising:

  • Provide leadership and practical expertise to Orbis’s fundraising events in Ireland.
  • Lead on the implementation of the individual giving strategy to maximise support and brand awareness.
  • Liaising and reporting to statutory funding partners as required.
  • Identifying, cultivating and solicitating corporate supporters

Communications:

  • Oversee and maintain communications excellence and support the expansion of Orbis’s presence in Ireland and communicate compelling narratives to donors
  • Collaborate with Orbis International to plan initiatives aimed at increasing Orbis’s profile and brand in Ireland, utilising social networks to attract new donors and volunteers
  • Collaborate with Orbis International’s Finance and Programme Departments to develop, refine and implement efficient reporting to donors, especially for statutory funding.

Finance and Governance:

  • Project and control revenue and expense budgets for Orbis Ireland in line with the annual budget
  • Monitor and update Orbis Ireland’s risk register, as required.
  • Ensure all governance policies and procedures are updated and implemented, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • At least five years fundraising experience including.
  • Strong leadership and project management experience (minimum three years).
  • Strong, articulate communicator who relates well with senior executives, board members and donors.
  • Experience in board governance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency for computer and internet technology.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment, with changing priorities and multiple projects.
  • The ability to function with limited support staff and an appreciation and understanding of the benefits and challenges of working within a multi-affiliate international organisation.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office environment.
  • The position is full-time (40hrs per week). The office is open from Monday-Friday 8am - 6pm.
  • Travel essential, including an annual trip to Ethiopia for Orbis Ireland’s participation in the Great Ethiopian Run (Wednesday 13 - Tuesday 19 November 2019). Possible travel to other Orbis offices globally.
  • Attendance at all Orbis Ireland events is essential. Events often occur after normal work hours and/or on weekends.
