Orbis Ireland Focus on Ethiopia
Since 2007, Orbis Ireland has focused its support on a comprehensive eye care project across 26 districts within the SNNP region of Ethiopia. We work to tackle the leading causes of avoidable blindness - trachoma, cataract and refractive error - in a region of 3.4 million people.
International Women's Day
Each year on March 8, people around the world celebrate International Women’s Day – an opportunity to reflect on progress towards gender equality and what we can do to create a more fair and equitable world. At Orbis, we know that blindness is a gender issue and are committed to alleviating unequal access to eye care.

Restored Vision
At around two years old, Salsawi's parents started noticing symptoms of strabismus. Being at risk of having life-long vision problems, his father brought him to Hawassa University Referral Hospital, where Orbis was organising a week's surgical and training program. Here, Salsawi was able to get the surgery he needed.

Orbis Ireland Annual Impact Report 2022
The Orbis Ireland Annual Impact Report highlights how, despite a global shortage of the sight-saving antibiotic required to treat trachoma infection, Orbis exceeded its targets by focusing on other planned activities. Our work would not be possible without the continued generosity of our donors.

Following another hugely successful trip to Ethiopia for the Great Ethiopian Run, we are thrilled to announce that our exceptional runners and dedicated teams have achieved an incredible milestone by raising over €180,000.
